Penelope Manager

A fruitful collaboration (or why PeneloPe loves shareography)

🧑‍🚀That’s a little step for a man but a giant leap for humankind. 🧑‍🚀

Does it ring a bell? It was 1969, and what a bunch of significant advances we have lived since then.

From the dream of a genius to the latest innovations in the transport & aerospace fields, Penelope’s team will be focused on bringing you the latest trends and innovations, so you feel like a rock star in your next company meeting😎

✨Forget about any widely known sleight of hand stuff and impress all your colleagues with incredible facts on advanced manufacturing✨

Hurry up; just a few seats are available, and today’s topic is exciting: shearography.

🙋‍♂️Hold on to your horses, Ms PeneloPe! What does “shearography” mean?

👩‍🎓Shearography is a contactless and full-field non-destructive testing technique based on laser interferometry and highly adapted to inspect composite parts.

It could sound a bit complex, so we attended this exciting workshop hosted by V2i and NLR a few weeks ago. 🔝And what a bunch of exciting people we met there!🔝

Personnel from V2i, Project Manager Thibault Boulanger and CEO Daniel Simon had the pleasure to collaborate with Patrick Jansen and Jacco Platenkamp from NLR – Netherlands Aerospace Centre with the support of Jonathan Rochet from OPTRION.

Both companies are active in work package 4 of the PeneloPe project, developing distributed inline quality assurance solutions.

While V2i is developing and implementing shearography inspection of composites for the VDL Bus & Coach pilot line, NLR will automate multidomain inspection for the aeronautics pilot line based on their expertise for NDT of aeronautics structures.

The day’s topic was the benchmark of shearography solutions used by both partners. V2i uses OPTRION’s DeFinder Shearography system to assess the quality of full composite bus side panels concerning impact damages and repairs, while NLR applies shearography to aeronautics applications.

The partners made good use of the day. They had plenty of fascinating discussions on shearography methodologies and measurements on composite parts from Aerospace and Transport applications. Hence, we are afraid that more & more exciting meetings will be coming in the forthcoming months.

We will be there to bring you the latest news and trend, but in the meanwhile, you can join our Community by clicking here. Hot stuff inside.

See you there🤗

The PeneloPe team.

Your kids are not interested in manufacturing? Well, they should

In 2019, Eurofound found out that 39% of European manufacturing companies reported that their production was limited by labour shortages.

How come? The manufacturing sector offers among other things to:

1. Join a high-demand industry
2. Get good pay and benefits
3. Work with new technologies
4. Have job stability
5. Take pride in making something real!

The last argument can be a convincing one for younger generations eager to get involved in jobs that make sense.

But despite these objective facts, young minds seem more and more inclined to stay away from a field in constant evolution, and adopting more and more deep technologies to be more productive…and more sustainable at the same time.

The manufacturing sector may well be suffering from misconceptions but also true realities that stick to the mind from a very young age.

When asked in la Fête de la Science (Grenoble 7-17 October 2022), an event aiming to raise awareness on science-related topics in front of kids, what they think when hearing the word “industry”, many kids answered (rather relevantly) “pollution”…and isn’t this precisely why we need these kids to join later the sector in order to make it more environmentally friendly?

For this reason, three manufacturing initiatives – Integradde, PeneloPe, DIMOFAC – joined forces to create a virtual escape room with Industry 4.0 being the background topic.

Play now!

How to play?

  • Make sure you have a good internet connection
  • 3 players are needed, ideally between 14-18 years but you could also be an adult playing with two other kids.
  • Communicate through an online call (Skype, Zoom, etc.) or chat at the same time you play so that you can easily exchange information
  • Each of you should play on a different screen
  • To begin, all of you should click on “Start” and then agree on who is player 1, who is player 2 and who is player 3

The idea is to hone skills that are relevant and needed in the manufacturing field:

  • Time management
  • Teamwork
  • Leadership
  • Critical thinking
  • Problem resolution
  • Negotiation

Besides, this is also an opportunity for young minds to understand:

  • What is Industry 4.0
  • What benefits it brings
  • What challenges it brings
  • What technologies it uses.

If you want your child to find interest, in a fun way, in skills that will be useful in the future, go ahead!

(Plus, they get to practice their English at the same time 😉)

Young generations & Manufacturing: an insurmountable gap? | 15 November – 10:30 CET | Online

However crucial manufacturing can be for our daily lives, producing the computer we are working on, the book we are reading and the food we are eating, the sector is losing momentum and students turn away from it.

A seamless and integrated solution for more precise manufacturing of large components in the Oil & Gas sector

Some say that we are changing times, but, in our humble opinion, what we are living is a time-change as never before.

A few years ago, concepts such as Close-loop digital pipeline or Zero-defect manufacturing would be associated with Uranus, but now they are, on average (at least from us).

And that is why we are doing our best to bring you the hottest news and events in the Large-Scale Manufacturing Industry, joining the best events.

This time it was The “Offshore Energy Technology 4.0”, a virtual event surrounded by some of the top minds in the industry:

Asif Mohammed (Head of Digital Manufacturing at AIMEN TECHNOLOGY CENTRE, Spain) and Victor Martinez (Operations and R&D Director at IDESA, Spain) shared some of the latest tips and trends about manufacturing large components in the Oil & Gas sector in the Offshore Energy Technology 4.0 on Day 2 Conference & Exhibition (Virtual) taken on Friday 16th September 2022…and we were there sharing the knowledge and spreading the Word.

A Team to be proud of

Some say that one image is better than 1k words, and we agree with that statement!

Our consortium met in Patras, Greece, for its annual General Assembly Meeting, and the experience could not be better.

As someone once said, ”There is nothing like face-to-face meetings to build strong and long-lasting relations with your colleagues.”

What a fantastic experience it was, thanks to the Laboratory of Manufacturing Systems and Automation. An incredible organization and a second-to-none experience meeting some of the top-echelon minds in the industry and sharing some of their most beloved tips and secrets.
