Tecnalia

Tecnalia (RTO) has a strong background of research and innovation covering industrial Manufacturing key areas and specifically for PENELOPE in Robotics & Automation. The Didactic Factory for Shipbuilding and Bus & Coach will show Flexible Cable-driven Robotics technology and applications targeting manufacturing companies dealing with large parts manipulation. Parallel cable-driven robotics opens enlarged business perspectives in multiple sectors with a wide range of applications such as in shipbuilding and transport equipment manufacturing but also in some other sectors such as aeronautic and energy.

Two set of applications could be shown with two different cable-driven robots in two different sites:

  1. Controlled and precise handling and assembly of parts.
  2. Automation of operations done in large parts: sanding, painting, inspection, 3D printing, welding, drilling, sealant applying, repairing and maintenance.

In two different sites:

Site1: in collaboration with JASO in their premises in  Idiazabal (Basque Country) with the CRANEBOT parallel cable-driven robot.

Site2: in TECNALIA premises in Montpelier (France) with the COGIRO cable-driven robot.

The Didactic Factory activities could be developed In collaboration with the robotics node of the Basque DIH (coordinated by Tecnalia) with the goal of fostering interest in this new technology aiming at transferring it in new applications in different sectors. The results of large-scale pilots will be disseminated through DIHs and DIH networks to wider audience.
